
Clinician - Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Position Summary
The Clinician is responsible for providing direct clinical care through individual, family, and group therapy services within Awkward Recovery's Intensive Outpatient Program. This role requires collaboration with the clinical and operations teams to provide high-quality, evidence-based treatment that supports each client's recovery goals and aligns with Awkward Recovery's standards of care.
Clinician Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments and develop individualized treatment plans for clients.
- Maintain an individual therapy caseload of up to 14 clients, providing services to both primary mental health and primary substance use clients based on clinical need.
- Lead 9 hours of evening group therapy each week, facilitating process and psycho-educational groups on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 6:00–9:00 PM using the program curriculum and evidence-based interventions.
- Provide individual, family, and group therapy using evidence-based practices that support recovery from mental health, substance use, and co-occurring disorders.
- Complete accurate, timely clinical documentation, assessments, treatment plans, discharge documentation, and billing in accordance with organizational, payer, licensing, and accreditation requirements.
- Monitor client progress through ongoing assessments and adjust treatment interventions as clinically appropriate.
- Develop and coordinate discharge and continuing care plans in collaboration with clients, families, referral sources, and the treatment team.
- Educate clients and families on recovery, community resources, and available support services.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate client care and ensure continuity of treatment.
- Recognize, assess, and appropriately respond to mental health and substance use crises, following established safety, reporting, and documentation procedures.
- Maintain professional communication with clients, families, referral partners, and team members.
- Maintain an accurate work schedule, communicate scheduling changes promptly, and coordinate client coverage as needed.
- Work in the full-time position requiring approximately 40 hours per week.
- Attend and actively participate in required staff meetings, clinical consultations, supervision, peer-to-peer reviews for insurance authorizations, and trainings.
- Practice within the scope of licensure while adhering to applicable laws, ethical standards, organizational policies, and clinical best practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of Awkward Recovery.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Addiction Studies, or a related behavioral health field.
- Current Texas licensure as a fully licensed or associate level LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or an LCDC pursuing a master's-level clinical license, or equivalent.
- Ability to practice under appropriate supervision and maintain licensure in good standing in accordance with Texas laws and organizational policies.
- Professional liability (malpractice) insurance maintained throughout employment, if required by licensure.
- Experience providing behavioral health services, preferably in substance use, mental health, or co-occurring treatment.
- Experience facilitating individual and group therapy; family therapy experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of evidence-based treatment modalities, recovery principles, family systems, and community resources.
- Strong clinical assessment, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and documentation skills.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Valid Texas driver's license and proof of automobile liability insurance if driving for work-related purposes.
- Proficiency with computers, electronic health record systems, and Google.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), residential treatment, or other behavioral health setting.
- Experience treating both mental health and substance use disorders.
- Training or certification in evidence-based modalities such as EMDR, CBT, DBT, ACT, CPT, or similar approaches.
- Familiarity with behavioral health regulations, accreditation standards, and clinical documentation requirements.
